What is the OP e-mail mailing list?

The idea is that with one e-mail you can send a message to all Ocean Pointers, or at least to all of those who sign up for the list. All you do is send an e-mail to the list name and it will automatically be delivered to everyone on the list.

The list is a great way to communicate meaningful and interesting information to your fellow Ocean Pointers.

Those already on the list are aware of a couple of usage suggestions for the list:

1) The userid for this list is oceanpointers@oceanpointcolonytrust.org
I suggest you add this userid to your personal address book so that you'll never have to key it in. On my system, I added it to my address book and gave it a first name of "Ocean" and a last name of "Pointers".

2) Be very careful when responding to an e-mail sent to the list. If you use "Reply", your e-mail will be sent only to the one person who sent the note out. If you use "Reply to all", your note will be sent to all of the people on the list. Please use "Reply to all" very selectively, and then only when you have a message you think will be of interest to all on the list.


We also have some usage RULES as well. We are starting out with these and we can add or modify as we go:

1) No spam!! Please do NOT send jokes, warnings of viruses, political or religious commentary. We all get enough spam as it is.

2) Please only send information you consider relevant to all of the people on the list. Since you don't really know who is on the list, please write as though all Ocean Pointers are on the list. Perhaps in time that may actually be the case.

3) In general, no solicitations. However, I think there should be exceptions. Examples, an e-mail reminding Ocean Pointers that OP Cookbooks are now on sale and can be purchased by following the instructions on the OPCT web site. I also think that once a year I should be able to send out a solicitation reminding people that I am in the business of helping people with their PC problems. I think it appropriate for any Ocean Pointer to send out one e-mail a year informing list members of their business venture. Only people ON the list can send e-mail TO the list.

This should be a fluid situation. I will moderate the activity and we can modify the rules as we go.
